The Levadas, which are the trails leading through the laurel forests, are a must see destination for visitors to Madeira.
One of them is especially worth to mentioned the Levada 25 Fontes, or 25 waterfalls.
It leads along the irrigation systems, that supply the island with water, and almost on every corner we come across the waterfalls on a well-prepared trail.
To start the route, you need to come by a car or buy a seat in a travel agency e.g. in Calhet.
The trail starts at the parking spot at the peak in Rabacal and here we also end our adventure.
The length of the walk is about 13 km, which takes about 4 hours in both directions.
However, it took us about 3 hours with coffee and cake in Casa to Rabacal, where the staff prepare all the cakes themselves.
Although we did not count 25 waterfalls on the route, there are so many of them that it is impressive the amount and size, especially the last one Risco waterfall.
